Snorkeling in the underwater path

In place in July and August, it is a course that is done by swimming, in the middle of the Marine Reserve Banyuls-Cerbère. At the Peyrefitte beach (between Banyuls and Cerbère), 5 panels are installed in the water during the season, over 250m long, giving information on the local underwater fauna and flora. Fins, masks and snorkels can be rented on site.

This afternoon, it’s swimming with the family at Peyrefitte! At 15 minutes south of Banyuls, towards Spain, we arrive just above this small beach of to park there. In fact, it’s a normal beach where you can simply sunbathe and swim, but this beach is not quite like the others: all its interest is the underwater path that you can do there, for free, with your own equipment. All you need is to know how to swim!

The departure is directly from the edge of the beach and … straight ahead! Swimsuit, flippers, mask and snorkel, let’s go, towards the first panel! There are already several varieties of fish and the arrival to the first panel is quite easy: we can even hold on to it to take our breath. We swim from panel to panel, along the rocks, just above the fishes! We follow the signposted route at our own pace, looking at each panel, which makes us aware of the protection of the environment. The fishes let us approach them, they are used to the Man, we really didn’t think to see them so close, it is quite impressive!

Hop, here is the fifth and last buoy: the view from here is incredible, we are really in a magnificent environment! Back on the beach where a good snack is waiting for us to continue the afternoon in family!

It is decided, during the vacations, we will renew the operation, perhaps from a creek, always in the Marine Reserve.
