GR10

Banyuls sur mer

le GR10, le sentier de grande randonnée

The GR10, is a hiking trail that connects the Mediterranean to the Atlantic across the Pyrenees. Departing from Banyuls sur Mer, through vineyards and forests of cork oaks, it quickly mounts to "Sailfort" peak. On the track you'll arrive at the "Col de Llagastère" where you'll find a viewpoint indicator next to old cellars, transformed into an inhabited house. A little further away, stop at the "Fontaine des Chasseurs" (Fountain of Hunters) in the shade of a beautiful chestnut grove; then after the "Col des Gascons", on the trail, you'll pass near ancient cellars in ruins.

From the "Col de Baillaury", you will follow a section that joins the "sentier du chemin de l'eau" going down to Port-Vendres.

The GR10 then mounts until "Sailfort" peak (981 meters) where a breathtaking vieuw at 360° rewards your efforts. The GR10 then continues its track along the beautiful forests of the "Couloumates" and the "Tagnarède" towards the "Pic Néoulous" (Massif of the Alberes with a climax at 1.256 m height) and from there on, direction "Le Perthus".

"Sentier du Littoral" (Coastal Path)

From Banyuls sur Mer, the Coastal Path* allows access either to the north of Paulilles - towards the "Cap Bear" and beyond to Port-Vendres - or south towards Cerbère, heading to Spain . The last one leads you along the harbour of Banyuls via the "Maillol" alleys, the esplanade of the "Arago" laboratory  and then winds along the coast in the middle of the scrubland composed of rockrose, rosemary, thyme, heather and broom. It offers magnificent views, crosses superb coves and beaches to reach the "Puig" of Cerbère at the Spanish border.

*The "Guide Littoral d'Argeles sur mer till Cerbère" is on sale at the Maison de la Randonnée" (The House of Hiking) and at the Tourist Office at a fee of 4 €.
